DIY Camera Strap Tutorial

Created by: Sewbon

Hello! Erin, from Sewbon, here today with a super quick and easy sewing tutorial to make a DIY Camera Strap.

I love taking pictures and have wanted a pretty camera strap for a while now but they can be pricey. Instead of purchasing one, I made this one that I love in less than 15 minutes! Want to make one too? Let’s get started.

Materials

Step One:

Cut your materials as follows:

-Cut the fabric to 36 inches long by 16 inches wide

-Cut the lace to 36 inches long

-Cut the leather scraps to 2 pieces, each 1 inch by 5 inches

Step Two:

Baste stitch the lace along the 36 inch top, right side of the fabric

Step Three:

Fold the bottom of the fabric to the top long wise, sandwiching the lace between the two edges with right sides of fabric together. Sew the seam with a 3/8 inch seam allowance creating a tube. Turn the fabric tube right side out.

Step Four:

Fold one end of the fabric tube together and pass it through the eye of the swivel hook.

Step Five:

Fold the bottom of the fabric tube up and stitch the end to the strap 2 inches above the top of the swivel hook. Stitch this seam a few times so it’s extra secure.

Step Six:

Using the leather glue, glue the leather strap to the camera strap, covering the stitch line. Using clips clip the leather in place while the glue dries.

Once the glue dries, remove the clips, attach it to your camera, and snap some photos!

Tip: If your camera doesn’t have a large enough hook to clip to, attach a split ring to the camera body that the swivel hooks can clip to.
