Sizzix and Westminster make a great team!

July 13, 2010

If you tell yourself you'll never quilt because of all the tedious cutting, have I got a solution for you! Westminster fabrics has teamed up with Sizzix (the die cutting machine people), and created a set of dies just for the quilter. You can make 2.5'' strips, 5'' charms and all kinds of special shapes to create the fastest quilt blocks ever. Just stitch them up! if you do not have the Big Shot Pro Sizzix Die Cutting machine, you'll need that, too. But if you are a die hard quilter, or really want to take most of the cutting out of the quilting equation this is a must.

A little background on how the machine works for those who don't know. The dies are strong plastic on the bottom and thick foam on the top. Inside the foam are blades in the shape of the item you will die cut. They are protected by the foam until you glide them through the machine. The pressure the machine exerts on the foam exposes the blades and cuts the fabric perfectly. When the die comes out on the other side of the machine, the foam is protecting the blades, and you, again. Pretty clever.

By the way, the Big Shot Pro can be used with any of the dies from Sizzix except the Sizzlets (they are too small and thin). And, all the dies that can be used with the Big Shot Pro cuts fabric. there are some very interesting applique opportunities out there! I am thinking popsicle quilt! triangle die.jpg
