Jennifer's new book - Girl's World - debuts in April 2011. And, although it was hard to narrow down a favorite from Girl's World's 21 adorable sewing patterns, Rick Rack chose the book's pretty cover dress (Mary's Fancy Sash Dress) as our first online sewing project of the new season.

Allow me to introduce you to Ann Berry, fabric.com's Home Decor Fabric Buyer. She has been with us about a year, and now she is expecting her first child. It's a girl! We are very happy that she is willing to share her adventures in building the nursery. Here's part one of her renovations.

Welcome to Operation DIY Nursery! You will truly be watching a work and learning in progress as I race to make my nursery vision become a reality this month before the furniture arrives. In January, we found out we were having a Baby Girl who arrives in June.  I had been waiting for 20 weeks to Ann's nursery before.JPGfinally get to decorate! We had left the nursery as the previous house owners had decorated it: blue and yellow with stars and a moon. This was great for a boy but not for my baby girl! I searched and searched for bedding to coordinate room colors with but found nothing I fell in love with, so I decided that Fabric.com fabric and paint should dictate their own theme.  My color inspiration started with a Kaufman Minky Cuddle Night Owl Tiffany/Violet (DW-146) fabric.  I loved the purple and aqua combination! As you can see from the picture,  I believe I got close. My wonderful Mom came down and spent a week painting these colors bought at Home Depot: purple hyacinth and teal ice. Even the closet is painted teal ice which makes it soft and bright. The next step will be to figure out how to stencil giraffes above the chair rail that match the giraffes on Premier Prints' Gisella fabric and pick out which Gisella color combination should be the curtain fabric.  Stay tuned!

koshibo fabric.jpgKoshibo or Kishibo fabrics are 100% polyester printed ''silkies.'' They are lightweight and have terrific drape. The prints we have currently are nostalgic or vintage looking florals that are just in time for spring. I know some of you are thinking, ''Kristl, are you crazy? I don't wear polyester in the warmer months!'' To that I will say that there are plenty of people, myself included, that work in the air conditioning all day long and don't mind wearing an ''unnatural'' fabric to work. Speaking of work, Koshibo is perfect for blouses and tops that are worthy of the office. Pair them with a jacket or cardigan, and you can keep the A/C chill off your shoulders. Here are the patterns I mentioned in the video today:
