The finished product, of course! But seriously, there is always that point where you know that it's working. Maybe it's when you see the fabrics together or when you turn the project right side out or when the final piece fits perfectly... but there is always a point when you realize it was all worth it. That's the best part :)

My favorite thing about the creative process is realizing I am ACTUALLY creative! Who knew! I'm such a linear thinker about so much that sewing scared me, still does to be honest, but i'm learnign that patterns give me enough FACT to help the linear side and fabrics just reach out and speak to me! I'm loving this learning process!

I like being able to create a garment or item from scratch, and I especially love it when I am able to give something I've made to someone and they really like it! :)

What is your absolute favorite thing about the creative process?

I love the planning, from picking the pattern, to the trip to the fabric store to stroke all the textiles and select just the right color and fabric.
Or going through my enormous stash to find the perfect thing I have been hording.

My favorite thing about the whole creative process? Seeing the smile on someone's face when I hand them my finished piece.

I enjoy the actual sewing. I know people who only like the idea of the finished product. I like perfect seams, matching stripes, straight stitching. I love the details. And I really like adding to my library. =)

What is your absolute favorite thing about the creative process?
My favorite part is when you get to sit down with your machine and start your project. I love the feel of knowing that whatever I am making (gift, clothes) was made by ME and done right.

My absolute thing about the creative process is that it allows me (and my family) a little bit more self-sustaining. The satisfaction and pride of seeing something that started out as an idea, made into reality be me is also another of my favorite things.

Sewing...love to sew and be creative, such pleasure of creating new items. Such as a lap quilt I've just put off trying to make...not sure why, I made one this week just in five hours, so pleased, my girlfriends birthday gift. She's not going to use it, wants to frame it...oh, what pleasure it gave me, I'm so ready to sew more and more now :)

My favorite thing about creative process is watching it all come together. Plus fabric shopping, which gives me inspiration. =)

I love the release of energy and personal time that creativity brings me. I tend to go on "creative benders" and sew obsessively for days then not for a month or so. Being able to make something useful is intensely satisfying.

Love the whole process of sewing, from deciding on a pattern, to picking out the fabrics, there are sooo many wonderful designs, colors, and textures, to working on the project to the grande finsh!!

I love taking something I've imagined and see it come to life. AND I love to see the reactions of others when I do!

I am brand new to the sewing/quilting world and I am diving right in. I love to look at all of the fabrics that are out there and imagine all of the possibilities. I absolutely love color and modern fabrics. My favorite thing about the creative process is coming up with the design of the quilt.

Best thing? The magical something-out-of-nothing effect. The way that the finished product is so much more than the sum of its parts.

I am for sure one of the least creative people out there! I look to books and patterns for my inspiration. I do love picking out fabric though. I think you can really show your personality with your fabrics.

The creative process is a necessary function in my life. It keeps me balanced and sane! I would be immobile from depression if I couldn't work with colors, textures, designs, shapes, etc. And I bring all of that to something that is useful and functional...and beautiful. How great is that?!!

I love how little details combine to make something that is so wonderful. A piece of fabric, some thread, a button, an idea, and ta-da! something that didn't exist except in my imagination comes to life! A small miracle!

What is your absolute favorite thing about the creative process?:

The designing. I get swept up in all the possibilities of 'what could be' :> Then the shopping, whether it be from my already available stash or out in the world of new fabrics and textiles!

I love sewing and the way it unites people. I love the sharing and caring bonds it creates.

Coming up with something totally unique and perfectly suited for the person I'm sewing/creating for.

My favorite part of the process is being able to take what I learned and create something that is just mine. I love being able to make something that is an original that I designed using the skills I have learned. I love seeing the look on someone's face when they get your gift that says they are just amazed. My daughter especially is one that gets so excited, she will tell all her friends..My mom made this for me. She is so proud. There is nothing better than your kids being proud of what you did.

My favorite part about the creative process is looking at other things people have made and wondering about the technique of doing it and planning how I would make something similar with my own twist!!!

My favorite part of the creative process is seeing the excitement on the faces of my projects' recipient. Two very close seconds are fabric shopping and watching my fabric and color choices come together to become more than their parts.

I love the feel of fabric under my fingers, the colors, watching something beautiful and useful take shape, the sense of accomplishment when the last stitch is in. The whole process is amazingly satisfying!

My favorite part of the creative process is the process itself. Let me see if I can make sense of this. I love taking a project from idea or "creative seed" to finished product. From drawing my pattern or vision in my little notebook, to picking fabrics, to sewing, to final little details... I love how each step includes creativity. And there are few things more satisfying than looking back on the whole process with a beautiful handmade item in hand.

What is your absolute favorite thing about the creative process?

I love to create personalized items for my friends and family. But I think picking out the fabrics, putting everything thing together then watching their face light up with joy is what I like the most. Making something espically for them. It amazes me the more I sew and see how something is done the more items I want to make. I always say, "If God gives you the talent and the machines to do it, then do it."

My favorite thing about the creative process is just being creative. lol It just makes me happy. It feeds my soul. I love taking pieces of this and that and turning it into something beautiful and useful. There's nothing better than looking at a finished item and thinking, "Wow! I made that!"

Hmmm...my favorite part of the creative process is that excitement I feel when I've got my project idea and fabric ready to go, and it starts to take shape.

What do I love about the creative process? I love the feeling of creating something, of accomplishing something, but I think I love the brainstorming ahead of time the best. I love to think about all the things I want to do, all the ways I can do it, and how to make it beautiful. Then I can run with it and savor that feeling of excitement and creativity.

For the most part with me, the creative process is just bits and glimpses of ideas and inspiration that build off of one another and I find it exciting to be able to actually hold in my hands this idea that had been lurking around in my mind.

I love the finished product, whatever it may be. It might be something for my daughter that I sewed from start to finish. It may be something as simple as sewing on a button for my husband. Or something like this morning; figuring out how to patch a scissor snip my younger son made in a favorite t-shirt. I love being able to show my family I love them in these small ways.

One of my favorite things about the creative process is being amazed at how it turns out. Sometimes I have a hard time thinking how to do something & suddenly it all comes together & is easier or better than I originally imagined. The best thing of the creative process for me is the stress reliever and how it takes me out of the fray and into a zone of sorts. Though I only have so much time to do my crafts, I really love to pour my energy into it and forget the pressures of the day while I do it.

Knowing that I am making a one of a kind piece with my own hands...and that it is durable enough to last many years.

I love seeing something I thought of in my head actually become a physical object.

I love seeing the things that I have made in use and people enjoying them.

I first find a pattern I like, then think, shop, think some more about the colors to use. While I am piecing, either by hand or machine, I think about quilting designs. That way I have given the quilting designs a lot of thought while I'm putting the quilt together. This allows me to get started on a project with no worry about the whole finished quilt. My favorite part of the creative process is that it gives me an outlet. So many things in my life are repetitive, so sewing gives me a way to do something different.

Ah, my favorite thing about the creative process is that I feel a connection with the creative community, both now and from the past. All my female progenitors sewed and/or knit and crocheted. I've been reading Betsy Ross and the Making of America by Marla Miller,a great book. I love to read about the lives of our country's colonial craftspeople, the details of their work and daily lives.

I have been blessed with a very special talent. This creative talent I have is so relaxing and soothing to my heart and soul. I can make very special gifts for family and/or friends. I also can create anything at the last moment for my children that come home for school or other activities that need a special outfit or costume. I love to end my day after working as Home Healthcare Aid for the elderly with doing my most relaxing and special talent called Crafting. Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your blog. My favorite part is choosing a design and then picking the fabrics for it. Love looking at different color combinations and finding just the right shade!

i look forward every day reading the blogs. i have been sewing since home ec. in high school but there is always something to learn about sewing and i can do it on this site. 7 years ago i made my daughters wedding dress, train and all the bridsmaids dresses. i was so proud. i have 6 grandchildren and i want to learn more. i get many ideas from this site. thank you for sharing ideas!!!

I am a beginner seamstress that invariably gets in WAY over her head. I would love a little guidance and inspiration. :)

My absolute favorite parts of the creative process are the freedom and individuality. With 50 hours a week consumed working the corporate world where you spend your time following processes and procedures, making sure everything conforms, and doing essentially the same thing day in and day out, it is so refreshing to sit down with a project where you're in charge. Follow the directions, wing it, use a pattern, drape it, make it like theirs, make it your own, fit it to YOU. It's the perfect way to regain a sense of control and person, rather than being one of many, many cogs in the works.

I love it when I'm about to give up on a project because it dosen't look right and then I do end up finishing it and it turnes out perfect.

I enjoy the entire creative process from beginning to end. It's fun watching the project grow and take shape as you work on it! Then when finished, you feel excited and ready to share with someone.

My favorite thing about being creative is that I'M NEVER BORED. This is a huge statement -- I grew up a fast learner, impatient, always looking for something new, and probably would've been diagnosed with ADHD or something if it existed in the 60s. But creativity, sewing, art, reading and music are neverending surprises, always fulfilling, yet never finished. Creativity is the one constant in my life, no matter how many careers I've had, men I've dated, places I've lived. It's my core.

Putting different fabrics together in a unique project gives me pleasure. Thanks for having the book giveaways. Seeing the books and comments has been fun.

The thing I like best about the process is that it is a natural part of me. It is as effortless as breathing and sometimes as painful as childbirth but it is always present. It is not a part of "me" but is me.

I love being able to choose the fabric for my clothing, instead of being stuck with whatever is on the racks.

I just started to learn how to sew this summer. I have to say that the entire creative process has been fascinating. My all time favorite part is actually when something does not go the way that I was lead to believe or expect and I have to think around it. Usually I come up with something the people that have been teaching me didn't think about or wouldn't have said for that step and it comes out just fantastic. I love the lateral thinking involved in the troubleshooting.

I think the most surprising thing I did was when I was learning to applique. I sewed the quilt to my finger....grin.....and didn't know it until I moved my hand.

Seeing everything come together in the finished project is my favorite thing about the creative process.

Wow, what a great prize. I do not have any of these books but they all look great. My favorite part of the creative process is seeing my vision come to life. I often have what I want in my head and have to search for the perfect fabric and pattern to complete my project. That and making something unique that no everyone has.

It blows my mind to watch someone turn 2 dimensional fabric into a shapped garment perfecly shaped to the human body. I love it!

Right now I don't have anything I like about the creative process. I keep finding all these projects I want to do or think look cool and I can't get my brain to settle on just one so I can create something.

I love the healing that has always come along with the creative process for me. When I was pregnant and found out my baby had died in utero, I was absolutely devastated. It had happened to me once before. I kept being told that there was no explaination but it was a rare loss (second trimester). What made it worse was that my husband was in Iraq at the time and he would not be allowed to come be with me while I delivered our dead child. I don't think that I ever experienced anything so painful, nevermind the fact that I had to do it alone.

I also had to stay sane for the rest of the deployment. Taking creative classes and creating things, creating SOMETHING, when I had felt I had failed so completely when it had to do with my child helped me feel whole and worthy again. This is how I became a quilter.

My favorite thing about the creative process is seeing where it takes me. I learn something new with every project I do.

The only book I have out of all of those is Amy Butler's baby book, which my friend keeps borrowing to make things. I'd love to be able to give her her own copy :)

I learned to sew through experimentation - my mom gave me some fabric and unsupervised access to her sewing machine when I was twelve years old. I broke a bunch of needles, but I DID eventually learn to sew, even if my technique sometimes leaves more than a little to be desired...

My favorite part of the creative process is when it all finally comes together and you get to step back and admire your work... followed up by the look on the face of the person who you made it for (because let's face it, we don't ever make things for ourselves), because they are both amazed and love that you made them something (well, if you have awesome friends and family like me who like getting handmade stuff).

I love to add my personal touches to things I make, even if there is a pattern, it comes out different. Like adding lots of extra pockets to bags.

I find that sewing allows me to express myself, while providing me the ability to relax and enjoy the creative process. New challenges allow me the opportunity to enhance my skills.

As for sewing, I love it when a seam comes out perfect and doesn't have to be ripped out. I also love seeing the finished product and knowing I made it from scratch with my own hands. It's so rewarding being skilled at something that is valuable and useful, for myself and others.

My favorite thing about the creative process is the 'zone' i go to when creating. It's a left brain vs. right brain thing, and I go totally to my right brain. Time seems to suspend itself...and I am so focused I don't even notice what's going on around me.

I love taking a pattern and adding my own creative touches with beading, embroidery or even parts from other patterns. the finished item often looks nothing like the original. I then love it when people say wow I really like that, and tell them, it's for you.

Yes, I teach knitting and sewing whenever I can. I have three granddaughters and can't wait to teach them the art of knitting and sewing. My oldest granddaughter is already fascinated with knitting and I often sit with her and knit while she holds on to my hands. She thinks she knits!

I love EVERY step of the creative process! Sketching out my vision, calculating measurements, fabric shopping, putting it together and adding just the right embellishments!I love teaching classes and showing others that they are also creative within themselves and show them how to express it!

I love the link sewing gives me to my past. I can remember going with my mom to the department store and choosing the fabric for my new outfit. I did not then appreciate the sacrifice my mother made monetarily and timewise. She sewed all of my clothes from the time I was in kindergarten until I graduated from high school. Looking back, I know now that the garments were beautiful. I can remember being in the restroom at a high school dance and one of the "popular" girls asked me where I had gotten my outfit. I was embarrassed when I had to say that my mother had made it. Now I know that it was a compliment. My mom had let me help in the creative process. She always did. From a bell shaped party dress to a dress for the "Snowflake" dance (white silk organza with hand sewn beaded and crystal snowflakes), I had the best even if I didn't appreciate it then. I am now sewing for my granddaughters and the seven year old is catching on to the creativity with a "Could you add this?" or a "I would like it to be this way instead of that way." I see myself in her and smile.

With the creative process, I like it when I am able to build upon an existing idea/project. The end results is changed to fit my taste and personality. Or as I am following the instructions for a project, I see different ways in which I can change it to follow my taste.

I love the release and calm I get from making something myself. After a super long week of chasing my one year old around, nothing is better than some me time to make something special. But the best part is when I make something for my daughter, I love the feeling knowing that it came from me. It also doesn't hurt to hear how cute her outfits are when I can claim credit for making it!

My favorite part is deciding what fabrics to use in the design.

I love how being creative helps me forget about all the other stress in my life. I also love the feeling of seeing something I made in use, either being worn by someone, snuggled under, or what-have-you. Sewing has quickly became my favorite hobby in the last year!

My favorite part is when you are sewing something up, and it's all inside out or folded into some wierd shape so you could sew that really tight seam, then you turn it right side out and it actually looks like you hoped it would! It's the best - usually the point in time I rip it out of the machine and parade it around the house to show it off! :)
My other favorite part - when my 3 year old tries on something I've made for her and runs up, gives me a hug and tells me "Thank you so much Mommy - I love it!". Can't really beat that.

Well, the best thing about the creative process I think is, that you sometimes have this (you think) awesome idea in mind, and then you start making it, and while you make it, you can have millions of different another ideas and then the first idea you had in mind maybe turns out to be something totally different (and maybe) better than from what you had planned. I also like, that the more you make, the more experienced you get and the better your project becomes. Sometimes I love to sit down and go through all my projects I made so far and see the progresses I made. It's like seeing a child growing up :)

The best thing I like about the creative process is actually seeing something I have designed come to completetion.

Anyhow, my favorite thing about the creative process and making things, is the sense of accomplishment when it's all done. I just became a stay at home mom, and took up sewing so that I can have that sense of accomplishment in a tangible object :o)

My favorite thing about the creative process is when a group of us girls get together to make a project. We're all doing the same project but our individual styles always show through. Different colors and fabrics always make each item an individual work of art. I can't draw a straight line with a pencil without using a ruler but I can sure can sew a straight line!

My absolute favorite thing about the creative process is selecting the fabrics. I love to just feel the fabrics, and then see which fabrics work best together. I will mix and match almost anything. And they all come out charming.

My second favorite thing is giving my completed project to someone who really really loves the hand work. So I guess I like the beginning and the end

The creative process feeds my soul in a way nothing else does. I lose track of time; I find it energizes my mind and relaxes me at the same time.

I love the feeling of accomplishment that I get when I'm done with a project that worked. I get so proud of myself that I was actually able to create something while many of the people in my life either don't know how or won't take the time to try.

I love watching it all come together! Its a real sense of accomplishment.

My favorite thing in the creative process is choosing a fabric from the many beautiful fabrics available and visualizing what it will look like as the finished product. Inspiration and excitement to get started generally follow.....

I am learning to enjoy the entire creative process! Even the not-so-creative parts because it all leads to your vision becoming your finished product.

My favorite part is seeing the look on the face ofthe person I have sewn it for, their pleasure and excitement. Most of what I sew or make is for the wearing and amost all of it created from my own mind. I try to match the person's personality to the fabric, style and cut as well as the flow and feel of the design, when I see their face and I know I have nailed it, I am ecstatic!

choosing combinations of color and texture

My favorite thing about crafting (no matter what it is, but particulalry sewing) is creating something wonderfully usefull. Whether it is a ball of yarn, a sheet of glass, skein of embroidery thread or a yard of cloth, these things are just pretty objects until you put your time, efforts, and creativity to them.

That "something from nothing" feeling of accomplishment is my absolute favorite thing about the creative process.

Has to be the end result! Nothing is more statisfying than a completed & wonderful item that can be used, worn or displayed.

Choosing the fabrics and seeing how all the colors, patterns, and coordination come into play!

My absolute favourite thing is at the very beginning when I'm going through all my fabric to pick out what would work best and falling in love all over again! :)

Now THAT is a prize! Wow!!! I think my favorite part is giving the created item to its recipient- I love making something especially for a specific person and seeing their joy in receiving it!

My absolute favorite thing about creative time is that is about the only thing I can do that is all me--not for someone else, about someone else's ideas or requests. I have very little time for "me" time as I am raising an 18 month old granddaughter and keeping an 8 week old grandson during the day. So my sewing/embroiderying is my only time to do as I please in any manner I please. Would so love to have the set of books!

I love being able to let loose on projects. My ideas coming to fruitation is AWESOME to see. Thanks for such a grand prize package. It would go great in my craft room, since I only have one sewing book!!:)

I love the constant challenge of using your own judgement, not what you perceive of other's possible judgement. It's a constant battle for me to give myself permission to do what I want and like. Such a good life lesson.

My mother & grandmother taught me to sew. I don't recall my grandma ever using a pattern and I don't think my mom ever used a pattern without making changes to the design. I love to sew and the creative freedom that comes from crafting something from a flat piece of fabric into apparel or home decor. I would love this collection of books as my creative fuel.

My favorite thing about my creative progress is picking out my fabric from Fabric.com and waiting for it to get here! I went out to a local store to get some fabric today and decided that the selection and price was much better at Fabric.com! I went home and ordered on line!

I learned to sew as child from my mother. Made a lot of Barbie clothes back then! Started sewing clothes for myself, then learned to quilt from mom too. I love every step of creating an item. Picking out fabric and notions. Cutting it out. Sewing it together. It feels great to give someone something you created. Also love the compliments when wearing a garment I created! Theses books would be wonderful!!! :)

My absolute FAVORITE thing about the creative process is drawing out what I want to do and then seeing the finished product knowing that the whole thing was planned out in my head and came out like I wanted! But sometimes I'm surprised, because I majorly underestimate how big something will turn out.

I love shopping for the fabric, touching all the different textures, and then getting it home to put together. The best is the satisfaction of seeing the finished product - and remembering how great it was when my Mom made something special for me! I really miss her!

The joy I get from creating something.

I'm a sewer. No not a place for sewage, a seamstress. Let's see, that's not politically correct. I am a person who sews non-professionally who has made her own wedding dress, and curtains and bedspreads, and quilts from old scraps and cast-offs (without a pattern), and clothes and diapers, and even a knit sweater--though that could definately have used some advice along the way, but that was before the invention of books on knitting. Crocheted hats are quick and cute, too. Ever since I've discovered sewing/crafting books, I am book poor and have barely scratched the surface. But how much fun to create gifts and the things that are around you in your home. And these books just open up another whole dimension about how we look at what we make and take us out of our stodgey old ways and bring us up to date and out of our rut!

I love starting with a blank page, formulating the idea, shopping for the supplies that will make the project come to life, and then creating the item. Best of all though is when you complete something beautiful and have the satistaction of knowing you did it yourself and no-one else has one exactly the same.
